Monasteries, Forts, and Castles

Bavaria and Tyrol are renowned for having many impressive castles and forts. Immerse yourself in the fantastic past history and locations reminiscent of fairy tales.

  • Tittmoning Castle: This fort used to be the summer residence of Salzburg's count archbishop. Today, this is a lovely museum called Heimathaus des Rupertiwinkel (30 km)
  • Fortress Kufstein: Landmark and known as "Tyrol's pearl" (40 km)
  • Stein Castle: This is the castle of the infamous robbing knight Heinz von Stein (Stein/Traun 20 km)
  • Monastery Seeon: Former Benedictine monastery and current educational centre of Upper Bavaria. (10 km)
  • Monastery Baumburg: Features a beautiful Rococo church and monastery brewery that is well worth a visit. (15 km)
  • Herrenchiemsee Castle: Ludwig II. impressive castle (12 km)
  • Neuschwanstein Castle: Fairy tale-like castle of Ludwig II. (120 km)
